In addition, thank you to NewMark Merrill for donating the space for the Shelter Hope Pet Shop. Kim Sill, Board Member of Bark Avenue Foundation says, “In this tough economy, with mall vacancies at their peak, it’s reassuring to see NewMark Merrill turning the tables by giving back to their community. There are so many pet stores still in business selling puppy mill dogs. We haven’t beaten these chain stores yet, so we are joining them…but with shelter animals who are priceless!

The Shelter Hope Pet Shop is dedicated to saving the lives of shelter animals!

Located in the Janss Marketplace Mall, dogs and bunnies from Ventura and Camarillo Animal Shelters will be on site, available for on-the-spot adoption. Visitors can shop for unique gift items for animal lovers, with all donations from the store going directly to help these shelter animals find new homes.

Shelter Hope Pet Shop is an innovative way to increase adoptions, awareness and education. It is part of a larger organization, Shelter Hope Project, which plans to make this the business model for all store-front pet shops. Shelter Hope Pet Shop is a volunteer-run nonprofit. We rely on the communities we serve for donations and volunteers.

How You Can Help:

  1. Donate to help the animals who need you the most. You can mail us a check or pay online at Bark Avenue Foundation.
  2. Shop and adopt at our store. Feel good knowing that every dollar you spend goes directly to the animals who need you the most.
  3. Tell a friend. We are a new non-profit and need your help to raise awareness. LIKE us on Facebook and FOLLOW us on Twitter and YouTube.
  4. Visit us at Janss Marketplace 275 N. Moorpark Rd. East, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360, Suite 193F.  Shelter Hope Pet Shop is located inside the mall between the Conejo Valley Art Museum and Gold’s Gym Kid’s Club.

We are open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11:00am – 7:00pm.

What is the Shelter Hope Pet Shop? The Shelter Hope Pet Shop staffed and managed by Bark Avenue Foundation, houses approximately 25 small dogs and 10 rabbits for adoption from the Ventura County Animal Shelter in Camarillo.

Where can I meet shelter animals available for adoption? The Shelter Hope Pet Shop is located in the Janss Market Place next to Gold’s Gym, 275 N. Moorpark Rd. East, Thousand Oaks, CA.  - MAP IT.

California shelters take in close to 1 million dogs and cats per year and the cost to house and euthanize them are approximately $300 million.  Even if you don’t find your perfect pet at the Shelter Hope Pet Shop, the staff can show you other available shelter animals!
